About

Our Mission is to respond to the needs of Vashon’s homeless and community members who are at risk of becoming homeless. We emphasize prevention. Our goal is to keep people housed.

Many of the homeless, or about to become homeless, are working families with low income jobs in our community whose income has not kept up with the cost of living on Vashon. These low-income workers are living paycheck to paycheck are often one illness or other tragedy away from being unable to pay their rent.

We have helped families with children, single / partner adults and seniors.

Services We Provide

  • Some rental and utility assistance.
  • Warm meals every weekday year round from our ongoing meal program.
  • “Care Kits” containing personal hygiene products distributed by the food bank and local churches, and other locations.
  • Assistance with moving, credits for washing of clothes, emergency funds for food, gas, utilities, medical costs, and other short-term needs.
  • For senior dental assistance, call Hilary at (206) 463-7277. This service is made possible by generous grants from Granny’s Attic.

Vashon’s Interfaith Council to Prevent Homelessness is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization made up of representatives from faith groups and others on the island. All of our support comes from donations. We are an all-volunteer organization, and 100% of donations go to direct services.
